Posting guidelines
Articles should be local, accurate and nice. If you need clarification, read on:
- You must be registered to post. This is simply to discourage idiots from posting nonsense.
- Information should be of local interest. "Local" means roughly Ingramport to East River, and the Aspotogan.
- Information should be accurate. No rumours. No urban legends. No opinion pieces. No jokes.
- Articles shouldn't intentionally criticize or embarrass people. If you want to do that, start your own blog.
- The subject of an article or link has to be relatively important. If you want to write about how cute your cat is, do it somewhere else. If you want to let people know your cat is lost, post it here.
- Please, no birthday announcements... hmm... unless it's for someone really old, like 100.
- If there are pictures of identifiable kids, the person who posts should have permission from the kid's parents. (If you want a picture of your kid off this site, let us know by using the Contact us link at the bottom of the page.)
- Don't post information that may compromise your own safety or security or that of someone else. For example, don't post something like, "rich, frail old lady who lives alone at XXXX St. Margaret's Bay Rd. is looking for someone to sort her jewelry".
- Don't be obscene. (If you wouldn't feel comfortable reading it out loud to an elementary school assemby, don't post it here.)
We won't remove or edit information unless we feel it breaks one of these rules, or is inappropriate in some other unforeseen way. We reserve the right to remove something that we think is inappropriate, but we don't promise to monitor every article that appears here.
Here are some examples of acceptable articles:
- Fish fundraiser at Shatford Memorial
- Funeral for John Doe on Saturday
- 2010 Women's Softball League schedule now posted
- Large black dog found near Queensland beach
When you add an article, you'll be asked to provide a headline, a picture (if you have one) and, of course, the words. (You can also just add a headline and a link to another site.) Please check off the topics that match your article. For example, someone posting information about a spring fair at a church could check off:
- Charity/Fundraiser
- Children & Family
- Church
Posting an article with multiple topics is good.
Stories appear on the home page in the order in which they were submitted, newest first.
After you've posted an article, you can still edit or delete it. Just log in, visit the article and click the "edit" link at the top of the page.
- If you are logged in, you can post an article.
